Veronica Elease Lewis born on July 3, 1941, in New Orleans, Louisiana. The daughter of Antoinette and Percy Lewis, she was raised by her parents and grandmother in the Catholic Church and was a devout Christian. Veronica was a loving child and wise beyond her years always wanting to help, cook, clean and take care of others. She completed her education through the twelfth grade; and, thereafter, around seventeen years of age, she decided to go out on her own. She got a place of her own and became employed at Sara Mayo Hospital in the Dietary Department for over ten years.
When she was twenty-two, Veronica had her first child, Tanya Lynnell Lewis, who was her pride and joy. In the coming years, Veronica met Cecil Hosey who declared after a short courtship that she would be his wife. Veronica was a younger woman than he and was not impressed by his declaration, but she eventually came around and became Veronica Elease Hosey. She and her husband resided in New Orleans where she was a wife and mother. Cecil was a Longshoreman on the Mississippi Riverfront and made sure his family never wanted for anything.
On January 1, 1973, Veronica and Cecil welcomed their second daughter, Adrianne Rolanda Lewis into the world, which completed the circle to their family. Shortly after the birth of Adrianne, they moved to Slidell, Louisiana, where Veronica continued to be a homemaker. She quickly became well known in her community for helping anybody in need. Learning how to cook at an early age made her popular in later years for being the best cook in the neighborhood. Family, friends, and strangers praised her for her cooking and she was always delighted to cook and serve meals. She was also known for helping people who were less fortunate by helping people find clothing and furniture. There were times that she gave her own clothes and furniture to others, as well as assisted others with grocery shopping. And, of course, she often gave cooking tips.
After living in Slidell for a couple of years, Veronica and Cecil moved back to New Orleans where she continued to do what she was known for: helping and serving others. After seventeen years of marriage, Veronica became a widow after losing Cecil to Parkinson's Disease. She continued to raise her daughters and reside in New Orleans until Hurricane Katrina in 2005 when she and her daughters relocated to Marietta, Georgia. In 2007, Veronica was diagnosed with Congestive Heart Failure and eventually had to seek residence at Golden Living Center Kennestone in Marietta. At Golden Living, she received continuous physical therapy and rehab.
Veronica’s move to Golden Living was not an easy transition to accept for her or her daughters, who were affectionately nicknamed by the staff at Golden Living as "The Three Amigo's". However, they did their best to make a negative situation a positive one. Veronica immediately started to build relationships and made herself known throughout the facility as “Ms. V” or “Mama”. She joined the Residence Council and continued through her illness to advocate for residents who had no family involvement or couldn't speak for themselves. For three and half years she vigorously fought through the complications of Congestive Heart Failure. In her last days, her mind was willing, but her body was not able to continue on. She passed away peacefully on June 4, 2011.
Veronica Hosey in her own right was a pioneer who served, protected, and nurtured the poor and less fortunate. Her faith and love in God made her the ultimate servant and the blessed child of the most-high God. Veronica is survived by her two daughters, Tanya and Adrianne Lewis. She will be truly missed, but never forgotten.
John 14
Jesus Comforts His Disciples
1 “Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me. 2 My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.
