

Georgia, Atlanta – Virginia Montgomery Fanguy, 85, of Atlanta, died Sunday, Aug. 31 of natural causes. She is survived by her children Carolyn Byars (Hardin) of Atlanta; Anne-Marie McLeod (Cory) of Charlotte; and John Fanguy (Maurine) of Arlington, VA; six grandchildren: Ryan Byars (Tiffini) and Emily Byars, Thomas Montgomery (Michelle) and Daniel Montgomery, Julia and Jack Fanguy; and three great-grandchildren: Tyler, Amber and Blair Byars. She is preceded in death by her husband, Bruce Joseph Fanguy; her son, Bruce Montgomery Fanguy; her parents, Carolyn Henderson Montgomery Laird and Robert Emmet Montgomery, Jr.; and five siblings: Margaret Montgomery Donald, Emmett Montgomery, John Montgomery, William Montgomery and Carolyn Montgomery Saino.
A native Memphian, Virginia graduated from Immaculate Conception grade school and Central High School. She attended University of Tennessee, Chattanooga and University of Arkansas, and was a member of Pi Beta Phi sorority. Virginia married Bruce in 1951 and together they raised four children. A devout Catholic, she was a member of Madonna Circle and a parishioner of St. Louis Catholic Church in Memphis and later attended Holy Rosary Catholic Church with her friends from Town Village at Audubon Park. She loved history and was an avid genealogist, tracing her family to the 1700s and providing a written and pictorial legacy for her family. During their retirement, she and Bruce enjoyed golfing and traveling.
The Funeral Mass will be held at Noon on Saturday, Sept. 6 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, Atlanta, with a church visitation immediately preceding at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be Sunday, Sept. 7, Riverside Cemetery, Macon, GA.
