Virginia “Ginny” Hughes, 85, passed away on February 3, 2015, at her home in Cary, North Carolina. She was a beautiful person and a wonderful mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend. She will be greatly missed by all of those who knew her.
Ginny was born the eldest of seven children on April 12, 1929, to the late Timothy and Gladys Thompson in Coweta County, Georgia. She is predeceased by her husband of 56 years, Glenn M. Hughes.
Although she struggled with progressive breathing difficulties, Ginny’s vibrant personality never waned. She could always be depended on for words of wisdom and encouragement, and she had a gift for brightening a room and making people smile. She continued to manage her business, enjoy talks with friends and visits with family until the very end.
Ginny worked at the Cobb County Courthouse for over fifteen years. She loved her work and especially enjoyed the many friendships she forged throughout her time there. She was talented with a paintbrush and for many years she taught ceramic classes to friends and neighbors. Ginny was a dedicated and loving friend to many, and she enjoyed their shared time and conversations. She was especially close to her sisters and always enjoyed their talks and visits.
More than anything, Ginny loved spending time with her family. She adored her only child, Deborah, and loved dearly Deborah’s husband, Don Fraley, who joined Ginny in heaven only two weeks after her passing. Ginny was unabashedly proud of her grandchildren, Donnie and Julie, and was happy to share stories of them with anyone who would listen. That pride and joy grew to include her four great-grandchildren, who wholeheartedly loved her in return.
Virginia is survived by her loving daughter, Deborah Hughes Fraley; grandson, Don Fraley, Jr., and wife, Brandi; granddaughter, Julie Hollowell, and husband, Chuck; four great-grandchildren, Madeleine and Tripp Fraley, and Hill and Holden Hollowell; sisters, Sandra Bonnett, Kathleen Adams and Ellen Wood; brother, David Thompson; friend and caregiver, John Daniell; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.
A graveside memorial service followed by a reception will be held at 11:00 am on Sunday, April 12th, at Georgia Memorial Park, 2000 Cobb Parkway SE, Marietta, Georgia. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in memory of Ginny to Transitions LifeCare Hospice (www.transitionslifecare.org).
