Virginia Ann Sparlin

Virginia Ann Skeen Sparlin of Marietta, Georgia passed away at her home on August 28, 2014. Her parents, Samuel Butler Skeen and Gladys (Marie) Skeen, and her sister, Miriam Skeen Burgtorf, preceded her in death.

She was born on May 25, 1929 in Pompano Beach, Florida. She graduated from Pompano Beach High School in 1947. She attended Purdue University and graduated from Stetson University, where she was a member of Alpha Xi Delta sorority.

Virginia moved to Atlanta, Georgia in 1952. She taught 5th grade at Morris Brandon Elementary School. In 1955, she married Dr. Eugene Edwin Sparlin and began her other career as a wonderful and loving wife, mother, and grandmother.

During her lifetime Virginia was known as a wonderful cook, a decorator with a flair for interior and floral design, and she was an astute businesswoman with an aptitude for real estate. Virginia and her husband Gene loved to travel and they went on trips to many destinations both in the US and abroad. They also enjoyed spending time at their homes in Cashiers, North Carolina and Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. Virginia loved to entertain family and friends, especially around the holidays. She will be remembered most for her love of family, kindness, generosity, and hospitality.

She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Dr. Eugene Edwin Sparlin, of Marietta, Georgia; Son, Dr. Samuel Jay Sparlin and his wife Lorraine of Fairburn, Georgia; Daughter Ann Marie Sparlin and her husband Gary Fannin of Marietta, Georgia. Grandchildren Zachary Kyle Skinner, Caroline Marie Skinner, Emily Louise Sparlin, Clara Ann Sparlin and a host of other relatives and friends.

The family is requesting in lieu of flowers, donations may be made in honor of Virginia for a memorial scholarship fund at the following two schools.
