
William Edward Hamby of Marietta, Georgia died April 25, 2011 at the age of 94 after a short illness. He was married to the late Eunice Georgia Floyd of Lake City, South Carolina for 64 years. Mr Hamby was born November 21, 1917 in Athens, Tennessee and resided there until moving Marietta in 1972. Mr Hamby was the son of James Earl and Rosa Webb Hamby of Athens. He served as a Captain in the US Army during World War II and was a member of Company B, 117th Infantry, 30th Infantry Division. After the war he was elected in 1946 as McMinn County Circuit Court Clerk on the GI Ticket during the famed Battle of Athens. Mr Hamby was self employed and active in real estate construction and development in Cobb County, Georgia and Tennessee. He was a member of the Peachtree Road United Methodist Church in Atlanta, Georgia.
Mr. Hamby is survived by a son, James E. Hamby of Marietta and a daughter Rosalinde H. Collier of Acworth, sister, Earlane Lawson of Athens, TN; four grand children, Cynthia H. Webster of Mobile, Alabama, Craig E. Hamby, Adrienne C. Knox and Eric Allen Collier all of Marietta and five great grand children. Mr. Hamby was preceded in death by a brother T.C. Hamby of Leesville, South Carolina.
Visitations will be from 5:00PM until 7:00PM on Thursday, April 28, 2011 at the H.M. Patterson Funeral Home at 1157 Old Canton Road in Marietta and in Lake City, S.C from 1:00PM to 3:00PM on Saturday, April 30 at the Brockington Funeral Home.
