William Alfred “Fred” Sturgis, Sr., 76, of Marietta, passed away October 4, 2016. He was born in Augusta, Georgia on February 25, 1940 to parents Mary Jopling-Sturgis and Richard Sturgis. Fred was a graduate of Georgia Tech with a degree in industrial engineering, and he received his master’s degree in operations research from New York University. He was a loyal, diehard Yellow Jackets fan. Fred was an Army veteran of the Vietnam War. He worked in management with Bell telephone systems for 32 years. Fred had many interests, but his passions were reading, computers, and woodworking. He was an amateur radio operator under the call sign K4KIX. Fred was a dedicated dog lover. He is survived by: wife, Anita Sturgis; sons, Fred (Melissa) Sturgis, Jr. and Brett Sturgis; daughter, Kelly (Bruce) Robertson; grandchildren, Lanie, Reid and Emma Sturgis; Will and Andrew Robertson; brother, Richard (Shirley) Sturgis; and sister, Mollie (Jack) Phillips.
