Yardy Trammell Williams, devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, son, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully in his sleep on October 12, 2026 in Marietta, Georgia, at the age of 93. Yardy was born on June 24, 1933, to Sarah Mann and Milton Williams of Clarkdale, Georgia. From an early age, he developed a strong interest in school, especially mathematics, as well as a lifelong passion for Lionel model trains.
He met his soon-to-be wife, Barbara Echols, at Brown High School in Atlanta, Georgia, and the two were rarely apart from that point on. They were married on February 27, 1954, and welcomed their daughter, Pattie, in 1954 and son, Kevin, in 1956.
He graduated from Southern Technical Institute in 1954 with an associate degree in Electronics and Radio. Shortly after, Yardy was drafted into the U.S. Army, where he served as a Field Radio Repairman (Instructor) for Company B at The Southeastern Signal School at Camp Gordon, Georgia. He ultimately earned the rank of Corporal (Temporary) and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal before he was honorably discharged in 1955.
Following his military service, Yardy earned a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology in 1960 and later earned a Master of Science in Engineering from the University of Florida in 1962.
Yardy and Barbara settled in Marietta, Georgia, where he was hired as the head of the Electrical Engineering Technology Department at Southern Technical Institute. As a dedicated educator, he mentored and encouraged countless students to pursue their highest aspirations. In the early 1980s, Yardy and Barbara built a mountain home in Seven Devils, North Carolina, where they built lasting friendships and hosted many gatherings. Deeply involved in his local community, Yardy served on the Seven Devils Town Council and was elected Mayor in the late 1990s. Their mountain home featured a large model train layout, bringing to life his lifelong passion.
Throughout his life, Yardy was a devoted husband who cherished sharing every adventure with Barbara. He was equally devoted to his children, grandchildren and great-grandsons. Along with his wife, he was a member of the Catholic Church of St. Ann in Marietta, Georgia.
Yardy is survived by his wife, Barbara; his two children, Pattie and Kevin; five grandchildren, Clark, Patrick, Sarah, Natalie, and Anna; and two great-grandsons, Lukas and Luke. He was preceded in death by his mother, Sarah Williams Nicholson; his brother, David Williams; many dear relatives and friends; and his beloved dog, Happy.
