He came to the United States in 1964 to attend Marshall University where he graduated with a degree in Business. He was an avid gardener and spent numerous hours tending to his flowers. Zia spent the majority of his professional career as a real estate agent helping clients that became lifelong friends. As a devout Baha'i, he was an active member in the Sandy Springs and Marietta communities.
He was a beloved husband of Donna (Sizemore) Afshani married 53 years, devoted father of Darik (Cheryl) Afshani, Alisa Afshani; loving grandfather of Kaylie Afshani and Sydney Afshani; dear brother of Mehri (Donald) Jefferson, Soheil (Khojdy) Afshani and was preceded in death by Ehsanollah Afshani, Cyrus Afshani, and Rouhi Pezeshgzad.
The family will hold a funeral service at 2:00 PM, Wednesday, December 27th, 2023, in the Chapel of Georgia Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cemetery, 2000 Cobb Parkway S., Marietta, Georgia, 30060. Following the service, Committal will be held on the grounds of Georgia Memorial Park Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorials be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
