
Bartes Fate Lockman, 89, of Marion, died Thursday, June 9, 2011 at his residence. Born on December 29, 1921 in Buncombe County, NC, he was the son of the late Dave Lockman and Addie Jane Owensby Lockman.
Mr. Lockman served in the United States Army overseas during World War II. He worked as a clerk for Proctor’s Feed Store for over twenty five years and retired from Drexel Heritage in Marion. He was a member of Garden Creek Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Nell Rochester; great-granddaughter, Molly Rose; four sisters; and three brothers.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Thelma Effler Lockman; daughters, Hazel Waldroup and her husband, Bobby of Marion and Barbara Waldroup and her husband, Tommy of Hot Springs, NC; son, Michael Effler of Marion; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; sister, Catherine Smith of Marion; brother, David Lockman of Marion; and many nieces and nephews.
A Service of Remembrance will be held 6:00 p.m., Sunday, June 12, 2011 in the McCall Memorial Chapel of Kirksey Funeral Home in Marion. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 4:30-6:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
A graveside service with Military Rites will be held 11:00 a.m., Monday, June 13, 2011 at McDowell Memorial Park in Marion.
