Rev. Cecil Alvoid Brown, 83, of Old Fort, went home to be with the Lord, Monday, August 1, 2011 at Burke Hospice and Palliative Care in Valdese, NC. He was born in McDowell County to the late Columbus Dewey Brown and Helen Turner Brown. Rev. Brown was the founder and pastor of New Hope Baptist Church which he established on August 25, 1985 and he continued to pastor the church up until 2002. He was a member of Zion Hill Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his first wife of 54 years, Frances Hogan Brown; daughter, Mary Linda Brown; son, Cecil Alan Brown; grandson, Travis Garrett Brown; son-in-law, Greg Davis; sisters, Anita Fox & Stella Anderson.
He is survived by his wife, Sarah of the home; son, Rev. Larry Brown & wife Elizabeth of Carrollton, OH, grandson, Jacob Brown & wife Marie of Carrollton, OH; son, Tony Brown & wife Dawn of Old Fort, granddaughter,Tracie Wolf & husband Chris of Marion; granddaughter, Maggie Fincher of the home; daughter, Robin Davis of Marion; granddaughter, Breanna Rose & husband Dean of Marion; the children of Alan – granddaughter, Mitzi Stamey & husband Tommy of Marion, grandsons, Curtis Brown of Marion & Brandon Brown of Old Fort; brothers, Harold Brown & wife Sylvia of Hillsboro, OH, Dan Brown & wife Paulette of Old Fort; sister, Lucille Parker & husband Doyle of Montford Cove; 9 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 4:00 PM at Zion Hill Missionary Baptist Church with Dr. Tom Walker officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in Bethlehem Community Cemetery.
