

He was born on August 14, 1949 in McDowell County, NC to the late Albert Lee Tate and Grace Mae Owens Tate. Mr. Tate was a member of Mt. Zion A.M.E. Zion Church where he served as a class leader for the men of the church, sang in the choir and was a member of the Men’s Booster Club. In the 1960’s, he worked at Marion Buick, during the 1970’s, he was employed at Broyhill Furniture, and his last job was a supervisor at Baxter Healthcare, from which he retired.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sister, Phyllis Marie Logan and her husband, Leon.
Left behind to cherish Mr. Tate’s memory are his son, Charles A. Tate, Jr. of Greenville, NC; his daughter, Cedetra Louise Tate of Winterville, NC; his former wife, Mary Logan Tate of Winterville, NC; one brother, James H. Tate and wife, Jean of Atlanta, GA; three sisters, Wilma Wilkerson and husband, Morris, Mae Evelyn Flemmon and husband, Hural and Mary Lee Haley and husband, Lawrence all of Los Angeles, CA; four grandchildren, Tyler Sin’tel Hamilton of Forest City, NC, Kayla Mishuan Tate of Burlington, NC, Oreyane Danique Tate of Winterville, NC and Emani Zaire S. Tate of Winterville, NC; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
The family will receive friends from 12:00 PM until 1:00 PM on Friday, January 27, 2017 at Mt. Zion A.M.E. Zion Church. A Celebration of Mr. Tate’s Life will follow at 1:00 PM at the church with Rev. Monte Miller officiating. Burial will follow the service at McDowell Memorial Park.
