Essie Ruth Elliott, 94, of Marion, NC, passed away peacefully at Hospice of Rutherford County in Forest City, NC on Wednesday, March 15, 2017.
Ms. Elliot was born in McDowell County to the late Marion M. Elliott and Nora Stroud Elliott.
Ms. Elliott was known as a humble and devout Christian lady who loved the Lord. She was a lifelong member of West Marion Pentecostal Holiness Church.
Ms. Elliott was a public school teacher as well as a piano teacher. She taught at McDowell County schools before they were consolidated. She also was a librarian at Emmanuel College in Franklin Springs, Ga., and then she returned to Marion and taught at West McDowell Junior High School. Ms. Elliott was a very caring soul and she was especially fond animals. She leaves behind four cats who will miss her loving and caring ways.
In addition to her parents, she is also preceded in death by her brother, Edwin S. Elliott and a niece, Carolyn Elliott.
Surviving Ms. Elliott are her niece, Margaret (Tim) Plemmons of Marion; nephew, Samuel (Mary) Warren, of Athens, GA.; great-nieces, Patti Plemmons and Emily (Kenny) Elkins,both of Marion, and Jessica (Dean) Johnston of Athens, GA; and great-great-nephews Kaden and Kamden Elkins, both of Marion, NC.
A Graveside Service will be held on Thursday, March 16, 2017, at 2:00 PM at McDowell Memorial Park in Marion with the Reverend Ron Carpenter officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her honor to the church of your choice, animal rescue, or your favorite charity.
