

Mrs. Staton was born December 12, 1928 in McDowell County, NC to the late John Wesley Hennessee and Eva Estelle Fleming Hennessee. She was a faithful member of Pleasant Gardens Baptist Church for over 70 years where she was an active member of the New Hope Sunday School Class and a co-director of the Golden Age Group. She also volunteered for the McDowell Mission for several years. Her family lovingly remembers her as a Godly woman who always had a smile on her face. They describe her as optimistic and unselfish. She was a caretaker to many family members and always very dedicated to her beloved family.
In addition to her parents, she is also preceded in death by her husband, James Staton; and her daughter, Danette Sheriff.
Left behind to cherish Mrs. Staton’s memory are one son, Danny Staton and wife, Cindy; one son-in-law, Michael Sheriff; her niece/daughter, Frances Hollifield and husband, Tony; two grandchildren, Jeremy Staton and wife, Amanda and Tyler Staton; two great-granddaughters, Addison and Samantha Staton; special niece and nephew, Courtney Ward and husband, Eric and Ben Hollifield and wife, Nancy; a special great-great-nephew, William Hollifield; one brother-in-law, Fred Staton; one sister-in-law, Barbara McKinney; and a very special friend, Helen Roach.
The family will receive friends from 11:00 am until 12:00 PM on Monday, July 8, 2019 at Pleasant Gardens Baptist Church. A funeral service to celebrate Mrs. Staton’s life will follow at 12:00 PM with Rev. Larry Gregg and Rev. Ethan Hester officiating. Burial will follow the service at McDowell Memorial Park.
