Joseph Daniel Garland, age 43, of Marion , NC, passed away on Wednesday, May 25, 2016 at McDowell Hospital in Marion.

Mr. Garland was born on November 28,1972, in McDowell County, NC to Josephine Shuford Garland and the late James Garland.

He was of the Baptist faith and attended Vision Baptist Church in Marion. Mr. Garland was known to have a quick wit and a great sense of humor and loved to entertain his family and friends. He enjoyed watching sports, with Nascar and baseball as his favorites. One of his passions was cooking in the kitchen. He was an awesome cook and he entertained his friends and family quite often.

In addition to his father, he is preceeded in death by his grandparents, Sarah Garland, Willard and Mary Shuford; and a nephew, Chad Garland.

Surviving Mr. Garland are a daughter, Jocie Garland of Marion; sons Jessie and Casey Conners of Rutherfordton; his mother, Josephine Garland, a sister, Sheila Jones and a brother, James Garland.

A Funeral Service will be held in the McCall Chapel of Kirksey Funeral Home on Sunday, May 29th, 2016 at 3:00 PM with Pastor Steven Brewer officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow the service at Pleasant Gardens Baptist Church Cemetery.
