

He was born November 7, 1932 in McDowell County, NC to the late Kermit R. Fender and Gladys Davis Fender. Mr. Fender served during the Korean War and the Vietnam War and retired after 20 years of service from the United States Marine Corp. He was also a member of the American Legion.
Mr. Fender is survived by his wife of 59 years, Frances Beachboard Fender of the home; one daughter, Janice Fender of Marion, NC; two sons, Joel Fender and wife, Gaye of Greensboro, NC and Timothy Fender and wife, Patricia of Greenwood, SC; four grandchildren, Jessica Criswell, Luke Fender, Dylan Fender and Jeremy Fender; and one great-granddaughter, Madison Criswell.
A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, June 21, 2011 at Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery in Black Mountain.
