Leon Ellis Turner

He was born December 25, 1922 in Buffalo County, NE to the late Earl Turner and Sara Laycock Turner. Mr. Turner was a proud WWII veteran of the US Army, where he served in 7 Campaigns, drove a tank in the 3rd Armor Division, he was a Forward Observer and received a Bronze Star. He liked to hunt, fish, and make woodwork crafts. Most of all, Mr. Turner loved his family.

In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by his youngest son, Leon David Turner and eight siblings.

Surviving Mr. Turner are his wife of 71 years, Virginia Mae Zeiler Turner of the home; six children, Richard Turner and wife, Janet of TX, Henry Turner and wife, Shiryal of AZ, Katherine Davis and husband, Duane of NC, Diane Taylor of NC, Carolyn McGahey and husband, Craig of NC and Cecile Ochoa and husband, Raul of CA; one brother, Robert Turner of NE; sixteen grandchildren; twenty-six great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

A Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, July 30, 2014 in McCall Memorial Chapel at Kirksey Funeral Home in Marion, NC with Craig Dice officiating. Services will conclude with interment at Westminster Memorial Park in CA.
