Marjorie Ellen Iceman Maxwell, 92, of Marion, NC, passed away on Sunday, January 28, 2018, at McDowell Hospital.
Mrs. Maxwell was born on April 13, 1925, in Ashland County, in the Milton Township, of Ohio, to the late Howard Iceman and Virgil Mae Reed Iceman. Her brother, James William was born in 1926 and her brother, Howard Dean Iceman was born in 1934.
She was raised on a farm in the country and attended a one room school. In 1939, she moved to the town of Ashland with her parents. Her mother passed away in 1940. Marjorie remained at home and graduated from High School in 1943.
Mrs. Maxwell moved to Cleveland, Ohio and became “Rosie the Riveter”. She moved to San Diego, California and married Henry Vincent Maxwell in 1945. They relocated to the Casa de Oro, Spring Valley, California area. On Nov. 12, 1952, they were blessed with a son, Dee Scott Maxwell.
Mrs. Maxwell was of the Baptist faith, and accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior in 1955. She joined the Casa de Oro Baptist Church, which was part of the Baptist General Conference.
She became involved in bible study and enjoyed working and serving at the Mexican Medical Mission in Tecate, CA., and at Indian Hills Youth Camp, CA.
Her beloved husband, Henry, went to be with his Lord and Savior, in 1991. She moved to Marion, NC, in 2007, with her son and daughter in law. She became a member of the McDowell YMCA and the McDowell Senior Center. Mrs. Maxwell loved to knit. She made lap blankets, scarfs, etc.. She would sell some of her knitting and give the proceeds to Care Partners Hospice and Palliative Care McDowell and also donate her knitted items to hospice. As her health declined, she became a resident at Autumn Care of Marion, in 2017.
Surviving Mrs. Maxwell are her son, Scott (Nina) Maxwell, of Marion; a brother, Howard Dean (Evelyn) Iceman, of Detroit, MI; a grandson, Micah Dee (Carmel) Maxwell, of Pearl Harbor, HI; and two great-grandchildren, Henry L. and Marco L. Maxwell, both of Pearl Harbor, HI.
Memorialization will be by cremation. No services are planned at this time. Mrs. Maxwell will be laid to rest in Greenwood Memorial Park, in San Diego, California.
