Mickel Clarence Helton

Marion, NC

Mickel Clarence Helton, age 68, of Marion, NC, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 17, 2016, at Hospice House of Rutherford County, in Forest City, NC.

He was born on November 27, 1948, in McDowell Co., NC, to the late Clarence and Myrtle Loftis Helton.

Mr. Helton was of the Baptist faith and a Christian man, who loved helping people and would give you the shirt off his back. He loved working with wood and worked for Broyhill for over 30 years and retired from Ethan Allen about three years ago. He was an avid knife collector, and in his spare time, he enjoyed building things like picnic tables, front porches and decks, or anything his friends needed help with. Mr. Helton was a wonderful father, grandfather and friend. His family loved him very much and will miss him terribly.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Helton was preceeded in death by his sister, Brenda Loftis.

Surviving Mr. Helton are his son, Charlie Helton of Marion, a daughter, Patricia Martin and her boyfriend, Carson Willis, of Marion; a step-daughter, Mary (Travis) Mosteller of Marion; a step-son, Claude Ogle of Marion; a brother, Jerry (Nadine) Helton, of Avery Co., NC; a brother-in-law, John Loftis, of Marion; grandchildren, Jessica Walker, Lynn Martin, Johnny Martin, Travis Mosteller, Brandon Mosteller, Kimi Ogle, Elaina Ogle, Timothy Ogle and Lesley Tollison; and great-grandaughter, Jaylie Stacey.

A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, December 23, 2016, at 2:00 PM at Kirksey Funeral Home in Marion with the Reverend Marty Conner officiating. The family will receive friends after the memorial service has concluded.
