Her birth name was Minnie Pearl Day and she was born on August 16, 1920 in Haywood County, NC. She was the daughter of the late Thomas Clayton Day and Harriett Wells Day.
She was a 1938 graduate of Marion High School and was retired from R.L. James and Son Hosiery Mill. She was a member of Zion Hill Baptist Church for more than 60 years and loved to attend church as long as she was able. She was a member of the Willing Workers Sunday School Class.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Hugh Chapman; four brothers, Clifford C. Day, Sr., Willard F. Day, Arthur A. Day and Alfred W. Day; a sister who died as an infant; and her former husband, Ercel Lee Barlowe, who was the father of her four children.
She is survived by her two sons, Thomas J. Barlowe of Charlotte and Dr. Michael Lee Barlowe of San Francisco; two daughters, Ruth Barlowe Williams of Marion and Elizabeth (Beth) Barlowe Hunter of Garner; 11 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and four great-great grandchildren.
A Funeral Service will be held at 3:00 p.m., Sunday, May 27, 2012 in the McCall Memorial Chapel at Kirksey Funeral Home with Dr. Michael Lee Barlowe officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1:00-2:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Providence United Methodist Church Cemetery.
