

She was born November 25, 1925 in Burke County, NC to the late Samuel T. Norman and Rose Etta Smith Norman. Mrs. Turner graduated Morganton High School and attended Pfeiffer College where she lettered in basketball. Her favorite subject was Bible. She went on to work as a transcriptionist for Foothills Mental Health Clinic for many years until her retirement. She was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church of Marion. She taught Sunday School for many years. She was well known for her chocolate cake that she would make for church socials. Mrs. Turner loved the Lord and spread His love by being kind and taking time to listen to anyone who had a need. She loved her Bible and enjoyed playing Bible Trivia at Grace Ridge Retirement Community. She won so often that she would be asked to “let others have a chance.” She showed her love to her family with her sewing and cooking. Mrs. Turner will forever be remembered for the wonderful care given to her family and those around her.
In addition to her parents, she is also preceded in death by her husband, Charles Alexander Turner; four brothers, Fred, Bill, Jim and Sam Norman; and three sisters, Lucy Caraway, Ethel Whitener and Marjorie Hopper.
Surviving Mrs. Turner are four children, Sandra Holland and husband, Don of Morganton, NC, Charles Turner, Jr. and wife, Brenda of Highland Village, TX, Susan Stroud and husband, Roger of Huntersville, NC and Joseph Turner and wife, Linda of Scwickley, PA; seven grandchildren, Sgt. Lee Holland and wife, Jackie, Jennifer Turner, Weston Turner and wife, Julie, Andy Stroud and wife, Cheryl, Rachel Hoppe and husband, James, Allison Williams and husband, Aaron and Jeffrey Turner; seven great-grandchildren, Nicholas, Reed, Melanie, Molly, Peyton, Ruby and Grayson; her close friend, Elaine Laney of Charlotte, NC; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to say “Thank You” to Dr. Edward Plyler and the nursing staff at Grace Ridge Retirement Community for the kind and compassionate care given to Mrs. Turner over the years.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Tuesday, July 18, 2017 at Kirksey Funeral Home in Marion. A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, July 19, 2017 at the First Baptist Church of Marion with Dr. Scott Hagaman officiating. Burial will follow at Hopewell Baptist Church Cemetery in Morganton.
