

Sue Elaine Ross Demers, loving wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away on November 18th, 2014 after a brave battle with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). Born August 14, 1941, in Marion, North Carolina, Sue was the daughter of the late John Clifford Ross and Eula Mae Morris Ross. She was a graduate and salutatorian of Old Fort High School class of 1959. She was a graduate of Lees-McRae College. After an internship at Presbyterian hospital in Charlotte, North Carolina, Sue worked for many years in the medical field while also being a dedicated wife, mother and homemaker. She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church, Beta Sigma Phi sorority and the Deerwood Garden Circle. She is survived by her loving husband, Arthur Hancock Demers; two daughters, Karen D. Tammela (and her husband Jonathan E. Tammela), of New Franken, Wisconsin, and Melinda (Lindy) D. Byrne (and her husband Colin F. Byrne), of Albuquerque, New Mexico, and one grandson, Robert G. Bonar. Sue’s smile was contagious, one that will never be forgotten. Her life was an example of selfless kindness, forever touching those she met along the way. Funeral services will consist of visitation at 8am at Our Lady of Angels Catholic Church in Marion, North Carolina, followed by a 9am mass on Saturday, November 22nd at the church. Graveside service will follow at McDowell Memorial Park in Marion, North Carolina. Special thanks to Unity Hospice and its wonderful staff and volunteers for their compassionate care.
