Doyle K. Brown

Doyle K. Brown, 88 of Markle stepped into the presence of God at 9:19 p.m. on Monday, March 25, 2013 at Visiting Nurse and Hospice Home. Doyle was a lifelong Wells County farmer, working land that had been in his family for three generations. He also ran a dairy operation and raised hogs. He was a well known fast pitch softball pitcher in his early married life, and followed his favorite teams down through the years. He enjoyed following his children and grandchildren’s sporting events by attending or watching for their names in the newspaper. He was active at the Markle Church of Christ serving as Financial Secretary for 40 years; playing trombone in the church orchestra; singing in the choir; singing bass in the BLOC Busters quartet and presenting special music with his wife Donna and their children. During the past 15 years up to the time of his last hospitalization, Doyle and Donna enjoyed providing musical entertainment for community gatherings, assisted living facilities and nursing homes.

Doyle was born on July 5, 1924 in Rockcreek Township, Wells County, the son of Wilfred and Hallie Faye (Derr) Brown. He graduated from East Rockcreek High School and was active in track and field, and music.

He was united in marriage to Donna Irene Overholt of Markle on January 12, 1947. His wife survives.

Additional survivors include a son: Robert “Bob” (Connie) Brown of Markle; two daughters: Lynne (Duane) Brown of Kendallville; Georgia (Robert) Whitehurst of Tampa, FL; 17 grandchildren and 35 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a son: Terry E. Brown.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, March 31, 2013 from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. at the Myers Funeral Home Markle Chapel, 415 N. Lee Street, Markle, Indiana.

Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, April 1, 2013 at the Markle Church of Christ, 455 E. Morse Street, Markle, Indiana.

Interment will be at the Horeb Cemetery in Wells County.
