

Ruth Ann Duncan, 78 formerly of Huntington passed away at 12:15 p.m. on Tuesday, March 13, 2012 at Heritage Pointe in Warren. She had worked at the Coil Factory in Roanoke as a young woman. She came from Arkansas with several families to Markle for work in the late 1940’s. She was a member of the Markle Church of Christ where she had taught Sunday school and was the former Nursery superintendant. She loved watching ballgames and playing dominoes. She loved raising her children and spending time with her grandchildren. She was born on July 21, 1933 in Pike County, Arkansas, a daughter of James and Laura (Turner) Davis. She was united in marriage to Doyce Smalling on May 8, 1950; he preceded her in death on September 15, 1967. She later married Jerry Duncan on March 31, 1968 at the Markle Church of Christ. Survivors include her husband: Jerry Duncan of Huntington; four sons: Rick (Lynn) Smalling of LaFontaine; Brent Smalling of Markle; Skip (Pam) Smalling of Huntington; Shane Duncan of Huntington; four daughters: Javonda (Jim) Warpup of Huntington; Darlene (Tim) Yaste of Huntington; Sheila (Brian) Rethlake of Huntington; Laurie Gottfried of Huntington; one brother: James Davis, Jr. of Markle; a sister: Neva Joy of Huntington; 21 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers: Winfred “Tuffy” Davis and Hayes Davis. Visitation will be held on Friday, March 16, 2012 from 2:00 – 8:00 p.m. at the Markle Church of Christ, 455 E. Morse Street, Markle, Indiana. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 17, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at the Markle Church of Christ with one hour of visitation prior to the service with Gerald O. Moreland and Mike Duggan officiating. Interment will be at the Star of Hope Cemetery in Huntington County.
