Mr. Pecina died Friday, June 14, 2013, in a local nursing home. The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, June 16, at Adams Funeral Home; a Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m.
Mr. Pecina was born on August 14, 1914, in Seguin, Texas, to Alvino and Senovia Lara Pecina. He married Primitiva Pineda on May 13, 1939, in Bremond, Texas, and celebrated more than 71 wonderful years together until her death on March 7, 2011.
Mr. Pecina owned and operated Pecina Service Station for over 40 years. He left work building fences for $1 a day and went to work at the station. A short time later, he bought the station and eventually doubled the size of the building. He loved working on small engines and repairing bicycles, skills which he taught himself. His true love was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. A man of faith, Mr. Pecina was a devoted Catholic, giving many hours to the parish of Santa Maria del Pilar and later, St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, both in Marlin. He was a charter member and faithful worker for the Marlin Knights of Columbus Council No. 4329.
Because he had to work to help support his family, he only achieved a sixth grade education. As a result, he became a staunch advocate for his children’s education, he was a constant presence at their school activities and made many sacrifices so that they might achieve a college education. He was a model citizen and took his civic duties seriously, providing a strong example of service and of the importance of staying informed. He read a daily newspaper cover to cover until a short time before his death. He treasured his right to vote and exercised it faithfully.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; children, Sonny Pecina, Olivia Davis, Louis Pecina and Guadalupe Pecina and his grandchildren, Greg Pecina and Jared Beltran.
Survivors include his son, Tony Pecina and his wife, Priscilla of Duncanville; daughters, Mary Lou Gomez and her husband, Raymond of Los Angeles; Lydia Rauch and her husband, Rock of Lott; Ana Walker and her husband, Paul of Longview; Jacqueline Pecina of Mart; and Patricia Wosnitzky and her husband, John of East Bernard; a sister, Francis Tenorio of Marlin; 30 grandchildren, 46 great-grandchildren and several great-great grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be grandsons Robby Beltran, David Beserra, Frank Gomez, Kenny Pecina, Michael Pecina, Ronnie Pecina, Nicholas Tobias, Daniel Trevino and Joaquin Walker.
Honorary pallbearers are Fred Casper, Dr. David Fedro, Ben Kirk, Ken Kofink, Ben Washington, David Pecina, Rock J. Rauch, Paul L. Walker and John Wosnitzky.
The Pecina family appreciates the loving care provided him by Dr. David Fedro and staff, and the staff at Golden Years Nursing facility, Elmwood Nursing Home, Providence Hospice and Falls Community Hospital.
Arrangements were entrusted to Adams Funeral Home, Marlin, Texas.
