

Harriet Dee Burke of Marlin passed away on June 23, 2025. She was born on December 6, 1938, to Harrison D. and Mary George Dillard Burke. She went to Marlin schools graduating in 1957 as the class Salutatorian. She went to Baylor University where she earned her undergraduate degree and then went on to graduate from Baylor Law School. After graduation, she worked for a law firm in Texarkana, Texas for a short time before going to Austin to work in the State Comptroller's Office. While there, she had the privilege of representing the Great State of Texas in an argument before the Supreme Court in Washington DC. She worked in the Comptroller's Office her entire career until retiring to Marlin in the early 2000's.
While in Marlin, she was active in the First Presbyterian Church of Marlin and on the Board of the Waite Cemetery in Reagan, Texas.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Frances Spragens of Pflugerville. She is survived by her cousins, Dr. Charles Oltorf and wife, Betty, of Austin and Mary Oltorf Dietz and husband, John, of Waco. She is also survived by cousins Christy Dietz Holze and husband, Stephen, and Walter Dietz and wife, Robin, both of Waco, as well as Matthew and Andrew Holze of Waco, all of whom thought of her as a much beloved aunt rather than a cousin. She is also survived by her good friends, Sonja Ertz, Sandra Smith and Vincent Ramos, all of Marlin, who were always there to help her whenever she needed them.
The family would like to thank the nurses and staff of Golden Years Nursing Home in Marlin and Alamo Hospice for the exceptional care she received there. Their kindness and concern for her well-being are much appreciated.
There will be a visitation from 9:00 to 10:00 am on Monday, June 30th at Adams Funeral Home followed by an 11 :00 am graveside service at Waite Cemetery in Reagan with the Reverend Dr. William Benner officiating.
