Joyce Ellen (Read) McMillan

Mrs. McMillan married Truman R. McMillan from Kirk, Texas on her birthday, April 7, 1953, in Mart, Texas and they celebrated over 65 wonderful years together until his death on June 4, 2018. She supported her husband’s businesses, The B&B Market and then McMillan Meat Market.

After both of her children graduated from Baylor University, she returned to full-time work at the Avalon Schools both in Marlin and Bruceville-Eddy. After retiring she worked at the Falls County Community Hospital and Clinic into her 80’s. She was a long-time resident of Marlin.

Mrs. McMillan was preceded in death by her parents, husband, siblings; Annie Lee Thompson, Blanche Lenoir, Carlton Read, Maynard Read, Jeri Flatequal, Winston Read and Glen Read.

Survivors include her son; Donnie McMillan of Marlin, daughter; Peggy Craft and her husband, Brent of Texarkana, Texas, numerous nieces, nephews and dear friends.

Her children would like to give a heartful thank you to Shantina Bledsoe who cared for her with both skill and grace this past year.

Visitation will be 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM on Friday, May 16, 2025, at Adams Funeral Home followed by a private burial in Kirk Cemetery in Kirk, Texas.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First Baptist Church in Marlin where she was a very engaged member or to the Historical Allen House also in Marlin.
