Nevia Grace Meisch entered into eternal rest on September 12, 2019, in Waco, Texas. She was born on October 4, 1926, in Stranger, Texas, to William Luther and Vera McCoy Arney. She graduated from Lott High School in 1944 and attended Lon Morris College in Jacksonville. She married Robert Edward “Bob” Meisch, Sr. in Marlin, Texas, on July 8, 1951.

Nevia and Bob and their children lived in several communities in central and west Texas during Bob’s long career as a band director before returning to Falls County and settling in Marlin in 1967. Nevia worked as a teacher’s aide for the Marlin Independent School District in the 1970s and at Chris’s Fabric Shop for several years after retiring from the school district.

Nevia served her community in many capacities. She was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Marlin for many years; she sang in the choir, served on the Session, and was a member of the Women of the Church. Upon the closure of the Marlin church, she joined the First Presbyterian Church of Lott. She was a member of the Marlin Civic Club and the Temple Bluebonnet Club; she held several offices at the club and district level of the Texas Federation of Women’s Clubs, including a term as president of the Capitol District. In addition, she volunteered with the Falls County Hospital Auxiliary, was a member of the Wednesday Matinee Musical Club, and served on the Palace Theater and Allen House Boards for many years. She loved gardening, sewing, animals (especially cats), music, acting in and assisting with Palace Theater productions, and reading. Most importantly, Nevia was a devoted and supportive wife and mother who loved her family and was always there for them in good times and bad. She will be loved and missed by all who knew her.

Nevia was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; three brothers, Frank Arney, James M. Arney, and Roy Arney; and a sister, Juanita Birkelbach. She is survived by her children, daughter Shearon Alex Bacon and son-in-law Alden “Bud” Bacon of Reno, Nevada, son Robert Edward Meisch, Jr. of Lubbock, Texas, and daughter Lisa Kay Meisch of Liberty, Texas; a sister, Mary Agnes Jaster of Waco, Texas; many nieces and nephews; and her beloved cat Domino.

Nevia was a very sweet and loving person. She always talked about her children and her special cat. It was a pressure to work for her and call her my friend. She was always willing to help any way she could at the theater. Before she went to live at St Elizabeth’s she would still come down and help prepare food for the up coming plays at the theater. Again , I was glad to call her my friend. I know she will be missed. Prayers for you and your family in the days ahead.
Debbie
