Shirley Ann Horton, 69, of Troy passed away at home on Friday, December 2, 2022 with loved ones by her side. Visitation will be from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm Sunday, December 4, 2022 at Adams Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 2:00 pm Monday, December 5, 2022 at First Baptist Church in Marlin with Reverend William Wright officiating. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery in Marlin.
Shirley was born on July 18, 1953 to Raymond Woodrow Adams and Mary Pauline Adams in Marlin, Texas. She graduated from Marlin High School in 1971. Shirley married Bobby Horton in 1972 where they raised their two daughters in Marlin. She completed the LVN program through the Marlin School of Vocational Nursing in 1972. As a LVN she worked in the Marlin Community at Torbett-Hutchings-Smith Hospital, Golden Years and Elmwood Nursing Homes, VA hospital, Daniel Jarvis Home Health and Falls Community Hospital. At the age of 47, Shirley furthered her education by receiving her associate degree in nursing through the MCC program. In 1997, she started Texas Quality Home Health, in Marlin, where she held the title of Director of Professional Services until she retired at the age of 55.
Her favorite pastimes include horses, barrel racing, country and western dancing, trips to Canton, garage sales, home decorating and DIY projects. She enjoyed traveling with her friends and family to sunny beach destinations. She loved shopping for her friends and family, especially her five grandchildren. She will always be remembered as a devoted nurse, loving mother and “MeMe”. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Marlin.
Shirley Horton was preceded in death by her Father Raymond Adams, Mother Mary Pauline Adams, Sister Gloria Jean Diver and niece Delores Medve. She is survived by her two daughters, Lori Tate and husband Dean Tate of Lorena, and Kristi Rosas and husband David Rosas of Troy; grandchildren Garrett Tate, Gracie Tate and fiancé Casey Whicker, Ellie Tate, Carter Rosas, Morgan Rosas and fiancé Bryce Wilkey; sister Mary Gross and special friend, David Lawler as well as numerous extended family and friends.
