Steve Johnnie Kunkel

Steve Johnnie Kunkel, 88, of Marlin, passed away on November 13, 2020 in Waco.

Visitation will be 6:00pm to 8:00pm Tuesday November 17, 2020 at Adam’s Funeral Home in Marlin.

Funeral services will be held 10:30am, Wednesday, November 18, 2020 at First Assembly of God Church, Marlin, and burial will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery.

Steve Johnnie Kunkel was born in Riesel, Texas to Theodore (Theo) and Annie Wegwerth Kunkel on November 7, 1932. He married Julietta Tessmann on April 27, 1965 in Marlin in this union he welcomed two beautiful daughters and one tenacious son. He worked as a roofer, door maker at Cameron Mills in Waco and yard driver at Hobbs Industries in Groesbeck where he retired from in 2001.

He was preceded in death by his parents, son Daryl, brother Robert and wife Martha, brother Arnold and wife Jean.

Survivors include wife, Julietta Tessmann Kunkel, daughter, Donna Fitz, husband David Fitz and granddaughter Marissa Fitz all of Marlin and daughter Denise Kunkel Kinsey of Waco and several nieces and nephews.

He was a devoted Christian and loved serving God and his First Assembly of God family. He helped build the church in its current location and served as deacon for many years.

He was a loving husband, father, and papaw. He spent his days hunting (with a gun or truck), fishing at the Trinity and Navasota rivers, gardening (acres and acres of cantaloupes, which were his favorite), barbequing and most importantly spending time with friends and family, from family vacations, to playing volleyball, dominoes and cards and the many family gatherings over the years.

Dearest Julietta,
There are no words at a time like this except to say that you and Steve were much loved by our Bluebonnet Hospice Family, and we are so saddened by Steve’s passing. He was a wonderful, fun, delightful person to know, and our prayer is that the sweet memories you made together all these years will carry you through as you grieve. Please know you are in our prayers and in our hearts in the days ahead.
