Adia Mary Rogers Harvey, a lifelong resident of Lafitte, Louisiana, was called to heaven on April 8, 2020 at the age of 84. Beloved wife of the late Alfred Raymond Harvey, daughter of the late Freddie Antoine Rogers and Ada Pizani Rogers, and sister of Alfred Rogers (Kathy).
She will be greatly missed by her four children, Joseph “Joey” Harvey (Carol), Keith Raymond Harvey (Pam), Connie Harvey LeBlanc (Tim, Sr.), and Cindy Harvey Payton (Beau/Glenn). She cherished every moment she was able to spend with her family, including her 14 grandchildren, Holly Harvey (Eric), Timothy LeBlanc, Jr. (Christina), Ryan Harvey (Jennifer), Joseph Harvey Jr. (Kristy), Shawn Harvey (Rachel), Christopher Harvey (Kristi), Matthew LeBlanc (Simone), Kacie Savoie (Kylie), Lee Rouse (Daniel), Christian (Jessica), Beth (Juan), Katherine (Ben), Anne Marie (Lionel) and Ridge Dowell (Chris), her 22 great-grandchildren, Danny, Cale, Trinity, Cali, Cami, Gavin, Gracie, Jolie, Weston, Timmy, Remy, Matthew, Layla, Alivia, Tevyn (Julie), Rylan, Jace, Declan, Jacob, Hannah, Leah, Avery and Evan, as well as her 2 great-great-grandchildren, Alora and Everly.
Teaching as a substitute at Fisher High School led her to accepting a position as Dispatcher for the Jean Lafitte Sheriff’s Department. With the towns continued growth, Mayor Leo Kerner promoted her to Town Clerk of the newly incorporated Town of Jean Lafitte. She loved serving the community and worked as Town Clerk for many years before realizing she was ready for a change and shifted into her second career. Adia joined her husband Fritz on their new Lafitte skiff, lovingly named “Papa Smurf” where they continued to create a lifetime of memories together before retiring to enjoy their elder years on-shore near family. She loved working in her garden, a founding member of the Better Swamps and Gardens Club in Lafitte. She decided to join the art group, picked up a brush and began oil painting. She had a natural talent and painted many beautiful prize winning paintings. She surprised herself when she won her first 1st Place Blue Ribbon in a local art show. She had a passion for life and loved being with friends and family. This called her to volunteering at the Jean Lafitte Senior Center, appointed as Coordinator for several years, planning activities, jewelry making, painting classes and outings for the seniors of the community. Adia has been living at the Wynhoven Skilled Nursing Center, where she was thrilled having the honor to be presented as “Goddess” at their annual Carnival Ball last year.
With heavy hearts, we must let her go with God and take comfort that she is now one of the newest Angels in heaven, watching over her cherished family and friends.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and sanctions imposed, a memorial service to Celebrate Adia’s life and cherish her memory, will be held at a later date.
