Barbara Ann Gilbert

Barbara "Barbi" Galley-Gilbert gained her eternal pain free body on August 7, 2026 at the age of 61. She was born on July 31, 1965 in Waggaman, Louisiana to the late Peter Percy and Dot Galley. She was the beloved wife of Steve Gilbert, Jr. Loving mother of her 4 furbabies, Jimmy, Bingo, Tommy and Dempsey and angel mama to Chii-Wii, Qii-Qii, Tipper-Tina. Sister of the late Mark Anthony and Melanie Ann Galley. Proud daughter-in-law of Steve, Sr. and Gail Gilbert of Lincolnton, North Carolina. Barbara is also survived by her life-long friend, Jeannie Covington, many cousins and other dear friends.

Barbi was a loving, spirited, and remarkable woman whose life was filled with service, music, animals, and unforgettable experiences. She will be remembered for the love she gave so freely, the lives she touched, and the many memories she created along the way.

Barbi had an extraordinary love for all animals. They held a very special place in her heart, and among her greatest joys was her baby cat, Qii, who brought her endless love and companionship. Her compassion for animals was a beautiful reflection of the kindness and tenderness she carried throughout her life.

Barbi was proud of her career with Jefferson Parish Government. Although circumstances eventually required her to retire, the years she spent serving her community remained an important and meaningful part of her life. Her dedication to her work and her community was something she carried with great pride.

One of Barbi’s greatest accomplishments came during her time as a member of the VFW Junior Girls of the Ladies Auxiliary Post 3121 in Gretna. She served as District 2 President from 1990–1991, an honor that reflected her dedication, leadership, and commitment to serving others. Among the most treasured moments of that chapter of her life was receiving the great honor of placing a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at Arlington National Cemetery. It was an experience that represented service, patriotism, and remembrance—values that she held dear.

Barbi also had a love for music and treasured the opportunities it gave her to make memories. She had the wonderful experience of singing with a band in front of Ernest Tubb’s Record Store in Nashville, Tennessee. Her musical adventures also led her to the Grand Ole Opry, where she had the unforgettable opportunity to stand in the circle—a moment that was undoubtedly one of the special highlights of her life.

Barbara “Barbi” Galley-Gilbert will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered. May she rest in peace, surrounded by the memories of a life well lived and a heart that loved deeply.

Family and friends are invited to celebrate Barbi's life on Friday, August 15, 2026 beginning at 11:00 am at Westside/Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, 5101 Westbank Expressway in Marrero. Funeral Service will begin at 1:00 pm. Immediately follow by a private interment.
