

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Beatrice Mae Rivet Matherne, born on February 2, 1944, in Jefferson Parish, Louisiana. Beatrice left us peacefully at her home in Slidell, Louisiana, surrounded by the love of her life, her husband Elwood Adam Matherne, on February 18, 2025, after bravely battling a blood disorder for the last seven years.
Beatrice was a vibrant and full-of-life individual, known for her warmth, infectious laughter, and incredible cooking. A successful restaurant owner and fabulous cook, she was the life of the party and a cherished friend to many. Beatrice's famous seafood potato salad was a highlight at gatherings, and her enthusiasm for life was evident in everything she did. She loved going fishing with her husband and dancing, creating joyful memories that will be cherished by her family and friends.
She is survived by her devoted husband of 65 years, Elwood Adam Matherne Sr.; her children, Yancy Joseph Matherne Sr. (Debbie), Elwood Adam Matherne Jr., and Rhonda Lynn Ronquillo (Earl); her grandchildren, Yancy Matherne Jr. (Amanda), Christopher Matherne, Cody Matherne (Adrian), Taylor Ladner (Bryce), Kelsey Matherne, and Mark Matherne Jr. (Macey); and her great-grandchildren, Tre (Maggie), Kayli (Quinn), Jace, Maddix, Addy, Olivia, Hayes, Braylon, Braydon, Lainey Bea, and her great-great-grandson, Sawyer.
Beatrice also leaves behind her beloved sisters, Brenda Leblanc (Jerald), Elizabeth Hebert, and Margaret Rivet; her brother, Libby Rivet Jr. (Shirley); and her sister-in-law, Rita Nell Dufrene. She was preceded in death by her son, Mark Anthony Matherne Sr.; her parents, Libby Eloie Rivet Sr. and Marie Julia (Truxillo) Rivet; her sister, Isabel Perez; and her brothers, Kelton Rivet, Clifton Rivet, Lipton Rivet, Johnny Rivet, and Tommy Rivet.
A beautiful soul gone too soon, Beatrice's spirit will forever live on in the hearts of those who loved her.
Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the visitation at Westside/Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home 5101 Westbank Expressway, Marrero, Louisiana, on Sunday, February 23rd from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM for viewing, followed by a service in the chapel at 1:00 PM
