Bridget Mary Figenshu

Bridget passed away peacefully in her home on Saturday, December 26, 2020 from complications of cancer surrounded by her family at the age of 70. She grew up in the Irish Channel and was a resident of Terrytown for the past 57 years. She was the wife of the late John W. Figenshu, Jr, of California. The daughter of the late Margaret and Raymond Cooney. Preceded in death by her father Charles E. Roberts, her sister Charlene Roberts Henry and her godmother Doris Roberts Michon. She is survived by her daughter, Gretchen A. Mura (Dennis), the center of her universe, her granddaughter Sarah Elizabeth Belsome (Tyler), her first husband Gary Mura and Rachel Hayes. Her sisters, Connie Roberts Ting (Bruce), Gail Quigley DePhillips (Clyde), Raynel Cooney Zimmer (David), Maureen Cooney Cortez (Chadd), Lisa Roberts, and Dana Cooney. Her brothers Eric Roberts (Lydia) and Mark Cooney (Fay). Her godchildren, Brandi Griffin, Harold Hebert, Jr (Stacie), and Amanda Allen Goode (Jim). Her godfather Willian Dunham and Aunt Janet Hebert (Harold). A host of nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, who called her “Aunt BeBe”, many cousins and her close friends she considered sisters.

She graduated from West Jefferson High School and still had a close group of friends the “Super Club Class of ’67”. She earned a bookkeeping degree from Delta Business College. She was retired from Freeport McMoRan and Goins Aaron Law Firm where she worked their accounting departments. She was a volunteer with Louisiana Special Olympics. Vice Queen of her Red Hat Society group “Buccaneers dans des Chapeaux Rouges”. She was the current Vice President and Social Chairman of the Preceptor Alpha Beta Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority and was elected Chapter Sweetheart for 2020-2021. She was a vigorous crafter and joined othered crafters at many crafting crops throughout the area.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Life at Westside Leitz Eagan, 5101 Westbank Expy. Marrero, LA, on Monday February 15, 2021 at 1:00 pm with visitation beginning at 10

:00 am until Mass time. Internment will be private at a later date.
