Byron Jean McElwee Sr.

Byron Jean McElwee, Sr., age 56 of Harvey, Louisiana entered into eternal rest on Sunday, January 11, 2015 in Kenner, Louisiana, surrounded by his loving family. Devoted husband of 15 years to Charlotte DeSoto McElwee and loving father of April McElwee Juraszek (Kenny), Robin McElwee Hingle (Jonathan), Byron Jean McElwee, Jr. (Virginia), Brandon McEntyre (Shelly) and the late Nicholas John McElwee. A proud grandfather of Cody McElwee, Kyle and Phoebe Juraszek, Blaine and Julia Hingle, Josilyn, Abigail and Sebastian McElwee and Aidan McEntyre. Loving son of the late Betty Donaldson McElwee and Bobby Jean McElwee. Son-in-law of Judith DeSoto and the late Wellman DeSoto. Brother of John B. McElwee, Sr. (Lorraine) and the late Becky McElwee. Brother-in-law of Daniel DeSoto, Sr. (Alisa), Todd DeSoto, Sr. (Kay) and Ernie Morris (Dawn). Byron was the brother from another mother of Brian Mouton (Valerie). He is survived by his best friend Max and preceded in death by his other furry friend, Buddmann. He is also survived by numerous loving nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends who will miss him dearly.

Born in Lake Charles, Louisiana and a lifelong resident of Harvey, Louisiana. Byron worked for Retif Oil and Fuel for over 22 years. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, bike riding, playing pool with his buddies and spending time with family and friends. He was known as the best fish fryer on the Westbank.

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the Funeral Mass on Saturday, January 17, 2015 at 7:00 PM in the Chapel of Westside Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, 5101 Westbank Expressway. Visitation from 3:00 PM until Mass time. Interment will be scheduled at a later date. The family request that the dress code be casual or biker clothing.
