Carl Joseph ZAR
April 7, 1927 – July 8, 2018
Carl Joseph Zar passed away peacefully at home with his loving family surrounding him on Sunday, July 8, 2018 at the age of 91. He was the beloved husband and constant companion of Verna Fernandez Zar for over 70 years. Father of Laverne Zar Davis, Wendy L. Zar, and the late Densie Ann Zar. Grandfather of the late Brandi Louise Davis. Son of the late Frank Sr. and Julia Gaubert Zar. Brother of the late Frank Zar Jr. He is also survived by other relatives and friends. Carl was a proud veteran of the US Army, having served as a Military Policeman in newly occupied Germany before he was demobilized at the end of the war. He returned home to Lafitte where his father owned a popular night spot, and was there one evening when he saw an amazing young woman and asked her to dance. They spend the next seven decades as constant companions, even working together as commercial fishermen. He is remembered for his hard work, sense of humor, practical jokes, and love of family. He was also a devoted sports fan, especially his Saints, NY Yankees, and LSU Tigers. One of his biggest frustrations was the commentators on TV talking about politics, as they did not tell it the way he believed it. He was outgoing and had a heart of gold. A Funeral Mass will be held in the Chapel of Westside Letiz-Eagan Funeral Home, 5101 Westbank Expressway, on Friday, July 13, 2018 at 1:00 PM. Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM. Interment will be in St. Pius X Mausoleum in Crown Point. The family would like to thank the staff of Hospice Compassus, particularly his nurse Laura, for their compassion and care.
