

Carlo “C.J.” Joseph Damico Sr. of Marrero, Louisiana peacefully passed away at home on Friday, June 23, 2023, at the age of 91. Carlo was born in Harvey, Louisiana to the late Carlo Damico and Mary Scaccia Damico. C.J. married his bride of 64 years, Beverly Bourg Damico in 1954, and lovingly took on four young sons, destined to be his own. They joyously welcomed their two youngest soon after. Loving and devoted father of David Owens Sr. (Melanie), Ted Owens, Dr. Mike Owens (Janet), Chris Owens (Cindy), Louise Damico Weigel (Chuck), and Carlo “Jay” Damico Jr. (Randy). He was the proud and devoted grandfather of fifteen grandchildren: David Owens (Tracy), Dean Owens (Powell), Amy Briscoe (Michael), Amanda Owens, Tammy Grainger, Albert Owens, Megan Lanier (B.J.), Meredith Owens, Joey Owens (Hannah), Christopher Owens Jr. (Erica), Dr. Jennifer Owens (Adrian), Melissa Weigel Johnson (Barry), Matthew Weigel (Melissa Collins), Lauren Damico Gainey (L.J.), and Elaine Damico. He is also survived by sixteen great-grandchildren: Kelsey, Griffin, Emily, Jonah, Luke, Molly, Zach, Elizabeth, Alex, James, Ayden, Nicolas, Cora, Vivienne, Maguire, and Margaret and four great-great-grandchildren Eveleigh, Bryx, Nicholas, and Emery. C.J. was the brother of Rose Ann Damico Deeters (the late Charles) and brother in law of Gene Bourg. C.J. leaves behind a host of nieces and nephews to cherish his memory.
C.J. is preceded in death by his wife Beverly, his grandson Carlo Joseph Damico III, his great-granddaughter Brittany Bellanger, his sisters: Mary Damico Martin (Loveless), Jenny Damico Ruiz (Joe) and Annie Damico Deris (William), his brothers: Phillip Damico (Barbara), Sam Damico (Doris), his sisters in law: Mae Alice Bourg Leblanc, Dolly Bourg Geldersma, Elaine Bourg, and brother in law Thomas Bourg, Jr.
C.J. was a Korean War era Veteran of the United States Army, stationed on Okinawa, Japan. He retired in 1993 as a machinist in the shipbuilding industry. He was a Jack of All Trades, he enjoyed being outdoors doing yard work, enjoying nature, and feeding animals by the kindness of his heart. His ingenuity allowed him to fix everything with anything, at any time. C.J. never met a stranger, never had an ill thing to say about anyone, and loved his family beyond measure. He will be dearly missed by all who were lucky enough to know and love him.
Family and friends are invited to attend a funeral Mass on Tuesday, June 27th, 2023 at 11:30am. A visitation will be held from 9:00am until 11:30am. Interment will follow the Mass at Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Gretna, Louisiana. All funeral services will be held at Westside/Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, 5101 Westbank Expressway in Marrero, Louisiana.
