

Delin Joseph “Flip” Ortego, Jr. passed away on Sunday Evening, February 23, 2014. He was 54 years old. Beloved son of Delin J. Ortego Sr. and Betty Knuppel Ortego. Father of David Ortego (Casey), Allison Ortego Parria (Dale), and Cyndel Ortego. Grandfather to David Ortego Kersey, Alyssa Ortego, Shane Rogers, Jr., Olyvia Parria and Trevon Parria. Brother to the late Ronald A. Ortego, and survived by Joyce Knuppel Bruce (Jerry), Paula Knuppel Saladino, Chris Knuppel (Rhonda), and Gordon Ortego (Myrna), foster brother to Chris Winter and Horace Kersey. Beloved uncle to Theresa Comardelle, Cynthia Sassoni, Dawn Hertz, Melissa Plaisance, Kristen Knuppel, Monica Harvey, Melinda Ortego, Ronald Ortego, Jerry Bruce Jr., and Allen Daigle Jr. Also survived by 19 great nieces and nephews. Flip was a happy go lucky. He was a fun loving and caring gentle giant, and was a larger than life character who would give anyone the shirt off of his back. He was a lifelong resident of Lafitte, and in his younger years he worked on a tugboat with his father, but he spent most of his career working at Nunez Seafood, and was officially known as “Mr. Fix It.” He will be missed by all who loved him most.
