

Dorothy graduated from Booker T. Washington High School in 1968, and Southern University of New Orleans where she received a Bachelors of Science.
Dorothy married her true love Charles Morton on July 26, 1969. To that union 3 children were born; Marcell, Lakeidra, and Aleron.
She then went to obtain her master’s in Special Education from Xavier University. She taught special education at various elementary schools in Orleans Parish School System. Dorothy and Charles then opened a nursery school named Learning for Lasting, teaching children from newborn to kindergarten. During the 23 years of operation, kids either went straight to kindergarten or were promoted to 1st grade after leaving Learning for Lasting.
After retiring from the Orleans Parish School system where Dorothy taught for 33 years, Dorothy became a Jefferson Parish CASA worker where she continued to fulfil her love in advocating for children safety and education. She also worked for Jefferson Parish Health and Human Services providing cognitive testing for early childhood children.
Her Siblings, Brothers Alvin in LaPlace, Louis in California, Darryl in Atlanta and Sisters Marie (deceased), Sheila (deceased), Vanessa in Texas, Lisa and Jennifer in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
A religious ceremony for Dorothy will be held Saturday, November 1, 2025 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Westside/Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, 5101 Westbank Expressway, Marrero, LA 70072, the visitation will be from 9:30 AM to 11:00 AM, followed by a repast from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM
