Gary Joseph Plaisance

Gary J. Plaisance passed away on August 20, 2026 at the age of 78. He was born on November 6, 1947 in Westwego, Louisiana to the late Freddie and Imogene Plaisance. Devoted husband of 57 years to Barbara Plaisance. Loving father of Cory (Chantelle) and Casy Plaisance. Proud grandfather of Kayci Risey (Corey), Kayti Plaisance (Bobby), Kayli Powell (Josh), Zachary Plaisance and Jayden Plaisance. Great-grandfather of Corey Plaisance, Parker Risey, Emmie Guccione, Rexton Guccione, Jaxton Guccione, Dakota Powell and Haidyn Powell. Brother Barry Plaisance (Cyndi) and the late Freddie Plaisance, Jr. (Sally), Jean Chauvin (the late Ruben) and Myra Thibodeaux (the late Richard). Godfather of Heath Plaisance (Cathy) and Gena Boudreaux (Casey). Son-in-law of the late Ovide and Rachel Plaisance. Brother-in-law of Donald Plaisance (Betty). Gary is also survived by his "Little Sweetheart" Ginger, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.

Gary was born and raised in Westwego, Louisiana. He graduated from West Jefferson High School in the class of 1965. He proudly served in the United States Army as an Infantry Sergeant during the Vietnam War from 1967 to 1969. During his service, he was awarded the Bronze Star Medal, two Army Commendation Medals, the National Defense Service Medal, and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal. Gary worked at Avondale Shipyard/Northrop Grumman for over 40 years.

He was an avid fisherman who found great joy in spending time outdoors. He also enjoyed gardening and had a special love for all animals.
