Gerald "Jerry" John Thibodeaux, aged 88, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on August 23, 2026. Jerry was the son of the late Hector Thibodeaux and Mildred Boudreaux Thibodeaux. He was the devoted husband of the late Janet Estay Thibodeaux for 63 years. Adoring father of Susan Walker and the late Lonnie Thibodeaux. Jerry was the favorite Father-In-Law of Scott Walker and Beryl Thibodeaux. He was the best Paw Paw to Chad Thibodeaux, Jennifer Walker, and Katie Walker (Benjamin Norman). He is the brother of Robert Thibodaux (Brenda), Genevia Ordoyne (the late Lucien) and the late Jane Ledet (the late Hubert). Jerry is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A native of Thibodaux, Louisiana and a resident of Marrero for the past 68 years, Jerry proudly served his country as a paratrooper in the United States Army. He was a dedicated employee of the Jefferson Parish Water Department for 30 years and retired at the young age of 48. Jerry was an avid fisherman and bass hated to see him coming down the bayou. He spent many weekends at the family's fishing camp on Bayou Segnette fishing and having crab and crawfish boils. Most of all, Jerry enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
The family expresses their deepest appreciation and gratitude to Fresenius Kidney Care for their care and support over the past 10 years; Dr. Scott Acosta and Dr. Jon Glass for their guidance and compassion and Compassus Hospice for their excellent care of Jerry during his final weeks.
Family and friends are welcome to attend a visitation for Jerry on Friday, August 28, 2026 from 9:00 AM until 11:00 AM at Westside/Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, 5101 Westbank Expressway in Marrero. A Funeral Mass will begin at 11:00 AM and internment will follow at Westlawn Cemetery, 1225 Whitney Avenue in Terrytown.
