Gerard James Gassen

Our special brother, Gerard James Gassen, passed away on March 21, 2023 in Hammond, La. He was born in New Orleans on January 11, 1957. He was preceded in death by his parents, Louis "Mouse" Gassen, Sr. and Rena Robert Gassen, his grandparents, Arthur Elmore & Odile St. Amant Gassen and Jean Baptiste & Ida Zeller Robert. He is survived by his siblings; Angela G. Armondi (Mark), Louis J. Gassen, Jr. (Rosalie Mathis), Terese G. Voisin (Quincy) and James Gassen (Pamela Faucheaux). He is also survived by nieces Blair Gassen and Jessica Broom; nephews Jude Gassen and Damien LoCoco; great-nephews Ethan Tucker, Gabriel and Elijah LoCoco, Darien and Joshua Broom; great-niece Marian Garrett and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Gerard was always a special and loving person. He never met a stranger and loved everyone he knew with a true and unconditional love. He was a long-time resident of the Strawberry Fields Jake Drive group home in Hammond but always considered Luling his home. Gerard loved music, especially oldies and WTIX radio, and watching his favorite TV shows. He was an avid New Orleans Saints, LSU, Houston Astros and Southeastern Lions fan. Gerard was greatly loved and will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

Gerard’s family would especially like to thank Helen, Lynn, Lori, Angela, Lisa, Aapri and all the other wonderful staff at Strawberry Fields and the Jake Drive Group Home for the many years of taking care of our beloved brother and for being there for all of us during this difficult time.

Family and friends are invited to attend a visitation on Wednesday, March 29, 2023 beginning at 9AM at St. Anthony of Padua Church, 234 Angus Dr. in Luling. Mass will begin at 11 AM and interment will follow at St. Charles Cemetery in Luling.
