Iane "Ann" Alberta Wimberley

Iane “Ann” Alberta Wimberley, devoted wife, friend, mother, and wonderful woman, parted this world on August 4, 2026, surrounded by those she cherished most. She was born in New Orleans, LA, on March 14, 1943, to the late Joseph Nathaniel Sims and Fannie Alexander, but was raised by her maternal grandmother, the late Alberta “Grandma” Daniels Knox. Wife of the late Tommie Lee Wimberley; Loving mother of Sharon A. Wimberley, Tommie Lee Wimberley, Jr., Laura L. Wimberley, and Schlonda Wimberley-Odum (Jayson Odum). She later reunited with her high school sweetheart, Silas Clifford Holmes, and had Ashley Wimberley-Holmes and stepdaughter Tamara L. Holmes. Proud grandmother of Blaine A. Wimberley, Blake A. Wimberley, Tory J. Wimberley, Dominick J. Mackey, and the late Tommie Lee Wimberley, III. She leaves behind seven adored great-grandchildren and a host of beloved friends and family.

Iane attended Durham Elementary and Carter G. Woodson Middle School and graduated from Booker T. Washington (BTW) High School and the BTW School of Cosmology. She worked at Charity Hospital as a candy striper/nurse's aide, at Morrison Cafeteria as a server, and as a nurse's aide/domestic for the Lazard Family, LLC. An expert seamstress and swimmer, she was quick to place a spool of thread in your hand or get you in the pool, so much so that she worked at the St. Claude Sewing Factory and was a lifeguard at the NORD Rosenwald Park every summer.

Iane enjoyed cooking, listening to music, dancing, gardening, sewing, painting, making jewelry, and hanging out with friends and family. She was an avid Saints Football game watcher, but a die-hard Dallas Cowboys fan. Once retired, she enjoyed her independence. In her golden years, she developed a love for the K-pop band BTS and was bitten by the travel bug. She enjoyed attending the Estelle Senior Citizen Center, where she met a slew of new friends. There, she joined a knitting/crocheting circle and knitted items for the St. Jude Children’s Hospital.

She leaves behind a legacy of compassion; her words were to work hard, stand firm in your beliefs, and be kind to everyone. Iane was beautiful, funny, sassy, stern, and caring. Ann, Lane, Jane, YaYann, best of all, it’s Diane in German, when she corrected you on how to pronounce her name… was a woman of strength, filled with unconditional love. Iane, you will always be remembered and forever loved. May you rest in everlasting peace, surrounded in the loving light of GOD.

Family and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Visitation for Iane on August 15, 2026, from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at Westside/Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, 5101 Westbank Expressway, in Marrero. The Memorial Service will immediately follow at 1:00 pm.
