He was born October 28, 1956 to James and Shirley Terrio. He found his soul mate and partner for life at the age of 16, when he married Linda Rojas of Lafitte, La.
He is survived by his wife, Linda Rojas Terrio, his son Brandon Terrio (Raelyn), and his daughter Sandy Bernard (John) and grandchildren Kaven and Khristian Terrio with soon to be granddaughter-in-law Aimee Bourgeois, future wife of Kaven, all of whom brought great joy to him. He also survived by his brother, Kevin Terrio (Pam) and sister Pauline Terrio Christen (Russell) and each of their families. Godfather of Ian Terrio and Chad Guidry.
James began the life of Commercial Fishing at the early ages of a teenager in the late 60's and early 70's. He continued to live a life in the fishing industry up until the early 2000's until his health played a role in his retirement. James (Poke Chop) was the Captain of the Master Brandon and Kaven Khristian fishing vessels. He loved the fishing industry and the people that surrounded him along with his best friend, Emile "Clem" Darda, which a day never went by that they didn't speak or at least mention each other's name.
He loved good food and socializing with his family and friends and always giving criticism to the cook if it wasn't good! He enjoyed fishing and hunting with friends and family, but most of all with his grandchildren. He always had a wonderful smile that could light up a room with singing a verse of a song or some kind of dance move to make everyone smile. He was never scared to "tell it like it is" to whomever he spoke with. Poke Chop will be dearly missed by all who knew him and loved him.
Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the Funeral Mass from the Chapel of Westside/Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, 5101 Westbank Expressway, Marrero, LA on Wednesday, October 8, 2025 at 1:00 PM.
