

John Leonard Zeringue, age 92, resided in Hahnville, Louisiana, died on Thursday, December 15, 2011. He was the beloved husband of the late Phedelise Schexnaydre Zeringue for 57 years. He was the loving father of Leonard J., Robert G., Edmond S., Anthony L., Douglas J., and Marten D. Zeringue, Winona Z. Champagne, Joan Z. Robbins and Lynette Z. Tamplain and the devoted grandfather of 26 as well as the great-grandfather of 27. He was the son of the late Paul Zeringue and Marie Adele Waguespack Zeringue and the brother of the late Robert H. Zeringue, Polymnie Zeringue, Paul Zeringue, Jr., Theresa Zeringue, Vivian Waguespack, Odette Philip, Lydia Zeringue, Antoine Zeringue, J. Andre Zeringue and P. Marion Zeringue.
He was born March 2, 1919, at Live Oak in Waggaman, Louisiana, and he graduated from Westwego High School. He served in the United States Army during World War II under General Patton. He was involved in multiple civic organizations, such as, VFW, American Legion, Council on Aging, The Lions Club, Hahnville Volunteer Fire Department, Knights of Columbus, Farm Bureau, recreational softball coach and he was the for Registrar of Voters in St. Charles Parish for 26 years. He was a lifelong farmer. His favorite quote was, “I was born to serve.”
Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the Funeral Services. Visitation will be held on Sunday, December 18, 2011, at Westside/Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, 5101 Westbank Expressway, Marrero beginning at 6:00 PM and lasting until 10:00 PM and again on Monday, December 19, 2011, at Our Lady of the Holy Rosary, 1 Rectory Lane, Hahnville beginning at 9:00 AM and lasting until 11:00 AM. Visitation will be followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM. Burial will take place in St. Charles Mausoleum in Luling, LA. Military Honors will be rendered at the burial.
