Jules James Alexie, Sr., 86, passed away peacefully in his home on the bayou on Saturday, January 9, 2021 surrounded by his wife and family. An Army Veteran and lifelong resident of Lafitte, he made a life and his living on the water. He loved his boat so much, it usually cost him more to fix it than the money he brought in, but that made no difference to him or his family. A quiet man, drawn to the solitude of the water, he drifted through life in a majestic silence that magnified the people he touched. When he spoke, the stories were to be cherished. He was so many things to so many people, but most importantly, he was husband of over 60 years to Eva Verdin Alexie, “Daddy,” and “Paw Paw.” Eva and Jules were a force to be reckoned with, and everyone will miss their comedic daily arguments over who left the stove on, but all those he is survived by will make sure to continue arguing with the love of his life in his honor. Son of the late Elenora Ames Alexie and Philip Alexie. Brother of Patricia Alexie Fleming, Janet Alexie, Ann Alexie Barbier, Christina Alexie Steele; and the late Philip Alexie, Jr., Mercedes Alexie Salvaleon Lytell, Mildred Alexie Mamolo, Alma Alexie Thiel, Beatrice Alexie Mamolo, Lillian Alexie, Leon Alexie, Raymond Alexie, Adolph Alexie, Melvin Alexie, and Joan Alexie Guidry. Daddy of the late Karen Henson (Mike and the late Junior), Jules Alexie, Jr., Lisa Ruttley (Cord), Glen Alexie (Robin), Robin Benoit (Rickie), Julie Alexie, and the late Ashley Zar. Paw Paw of Rickie Benoit, Jr. (Kim), Jonie Benoit (Doug), Danielle Guidry (Jason), Sean Hamilton (Lindsey), Brooke Lovell (Brandon), Jules Alexie, III, Alicia Benoit, Trey Henson (Kelly), Jessica Taylor (Justin), Amanda George (Aric), Mindi Tapie (Chris), Taylor, Kailyn, Peyton, Hannah (Eddie), Beau, Cole, and his loyal granddog Brees. Great Paw Paw of Rickie, Ryan, Jade, Jase, Morgan, Tayler, Angelo, Jillian, Brenna, Caden, Ava, Lucy, Nathan, Embree, Jax, Tyler, Rex, Jason, Joseph, Bricelyn (his light that made him shine longer and brighter), Annabelle, Jules, Raylon and Baby Elle. He was also an uncle to many nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews, and cousin and friend to an extensive array of devoted people. The family would like to thank everyone for their outpouring of love and support during this time. A special thank you to the doctors, nurses and staff at West Jefferson Medical Center, Compassus, the EMTs with Acadian Ambulance Services, Louisiana State Police, and all those who came together to make it possible for this loved man to leave this world from the comfort of his home on the bayou. In lieu of flowers, thank you for taking 24 hours of your time to read this obituary.
