

Keith J. "Monk" Thiel passed away on June 13, 2026 at the age of 71. He was born on August 10, 1954 to the late Frank N. and Alma C. Thiel. Husband of the late Bernadette V. Thiel. Father of Miranda K. Thiel and the late Keith J. Thiel, Jr. (Lori). Grandfather of Hayden Thiel. Brother of Timothy Thiel (late Vanda), G. Gary Thiel (Crystal) who’s also his Godchild and late Lorraine Thiel and Gary Louis Thiel. Uncle of Charlotte G. Thiel and great-uncle of Cain, Blaise and Libby McCoy. Father-in-Law of Lori Loup Thiel and the late Andrew Arceneaux (Tina). Keith was also preceded in death by his Godchild, Tiffani "Niki" Thiel.
Keith was Like a brother to the late Alma Jasper and late Marlene Plaisance Street; an uncle to Alma’s children and Marlene’s children. He also loved his 2 godchildren like his own children. He is also survived by four aunts and countless cousins.
The family would like to show special recognition to cousin Todd Guidry and Aunt Christine Steele. Most special thanks and unending gratitude for the love, commitment and dedication shown by daughter-in-law Tina Watson (Andrew) and their family, and Priscilla McDonald. He resided with Tina and Andrew’s family where Tina cared for him daily.
Keith was born in New Orleans and grew up in Harvey, LA. He was a resident of Bay St. Louis, MS at the time of his death. He attended West Jefferson High School. A career tugboat Captain, he spent over 35 years in the tug & tow industry. He was a former member of the Sons of the American Legion (Marrero, LA) and car clubs.
His favorite hobby was karaoke and dancing; very enthusiastic for both! He loved dancing and singing. He was known for his story-telling and acting like a “nut”; enjoying cutting up with relatives. He was a big football and boxing fan. He was deeply passionate for his family and extended family; a generous man. He loved living, and had a big heart which he wore on his sleeve. In recent times, he was excited about the Lord Jesus and openly praised God to others. He currently dwells in the presence of God, reunited with family and friends who preceded him entering eternity.
Family and friends are invited to attend the memorial visitation for Keith that will be held on June 23, 2026, from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm at Westside/Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, 5101 Westbank Expressway in Marrero. Funeral Service will begin at 1:00 pm.
