Lela Mae Murray Raker Mason passed away on Wednesday, October 7, 2026 at the age of 91. She was born in Gilbert, Louisiana and was a longtime resident of Belle Chasse, Louisiana. She was married to the late Henry "Hank" Raker who passed away in 1998. She was then married to the late Wallace "Wally" Mason who passed away in 2018. Lela was the loving mother of the late Melinda Carol George, James Allen George (Anne), Odney "Dale" Provance, Jr. (Patty), and Joy Leona Provance (Sean). She was the loving grandmother of Everett George, Preston Monahan (Sarah), Melissa George, Dale Provance III, Dustin "Dusty" Luginbuhl, Jenna George, Amanda Gomez (Davin), Nathan Provance, Austin Provance, Rowan Lester, Sean Coughlin II, Natalie Provance, David "Trey" Lester, as well as 13 great grandchildren. She leaves behind three brothers and one sister.
Lela also leaves behind her dearest friends and travel companions of over 60 years Anthony and Joy Rushby of Grimsby, England.
Lela is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, honorary grandchildren, and friends who will miss her dearly.
The family would like to thank Lela's nephew, Alvin "Joey" Wells, for his kindness, love, and dedication to his Aunt Mae during her time of need.
A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00AM on Wednesday, October 14, 2026 in the chapel of Westside/Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, 5101 Westbank Expressway in Marrero, Louisiana. The visitation will begin at 9:00AM and continue until the service time. Interment will follow the service at Southeast Louisiana Veterans Cemetery in Slidell, Louisiana.
