Leo Meerman passed away peacefully at home on July 31 at the age of 88 after a short battle with cancer. Leo was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Corry (Brok) Meerman (2009) and his eldest son, Leo Jr. (2002). He is survived by his wife, Tina T. Hoang, daughter-in-law Donnalee, son Richard (Anne), daughters Joanne, Janet Mueller (Ernie Jr.) and son Robert (Katherine). Also survived by 10 grandchildren (some with spouses), 10 great-grandchildren, 5 step-children: Dzung (Kim), Trang, Mai Lan (Hieu), Christine (James), David and 8 step-grandchildren. Leo was born in The Netherlands and experienced World War II firsthand as a 10-year-old boy. Some of those experiences shaped his life from then on. He immigrated to the United States-The Land of Opportunity, with his newlywed wife, Corry, in 1957. His first employer in the U.S. was Fischbach & Moore Electrical Contractors from which he retired 30 years later. His employment required him to relocate his family several times to supervise the construction of Nuclear Power Plants. His retirement was spent enjoying grandchildren and great-grandchildren, delivering Meals-on-Wheels to the elderly and completing numerous construction projects for his Parish Church, St. John Bosco, and for family. A wake will be held Friday, August 6th from 7-9pm at Westside/Lietz-Eagan Funeral Home, 5101 Westbank Expressway, Marrero. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. John Bosco Church, 2114 Oakmere Dr., Harvey on Saturday August 7th at 10am. After the services, his remains will be cremated and Interment will take place at a later date.
