Hello Chief Schouest Family, while going through Facebook today a former graduate of the Chiefs company at Orlando posted a memory. I have a different memory of him while in high school in 1969 we visited the Orlando recruit center in January. And there was a graduating class going on that the chief was in charge of. As part of the field trip we were on we had a chance to talk to some of the instructors. And I have the privilege of speaking with him with little knowledge that 4 years later I would also be at the training center as a recruit. His demeanor and way of speaking to us really had a decision that I made easier based on what he was saying. I later became aerographers mate, Navy weather guy, And instead of going in the Air Force based on my talk with him. I made it all the way to the rank of Master Chief before retiring. Now that I look back of the chiefs that I came in contact with he definitely had the most influential effect on my life because it propelled me into the Navy. To me he was a great person and I have a lot of respect for what he did in his speech to us as high school students. Thanks Don Hart (AGCM USN RET)

Chief Schouest was my company Commander while I was in Orlando NRTC Company 16. There's a possibility that Chief Schouest saved my life. He insisted that I take the flight home during Christmas leave in 1968 instead of hitching a ride home with a first class petty officer that I didn't know at all. I was young and naive and someone could have taken advantage of me. 
Chief Schouest was a good company commander. He made me proud during morning inspection one day when I responded to the inspector who asked me what was the fifth general order of a sentry is  I answered the inspector what it was just as loud or louder than he asked me. As Chief Schouest walked by he slapped me on the arm and said "good job, Hasty".  That's one of my favorite moments while in the navy. 
I called Chief Schouest back in 2014 and just now learned of his passing. Thank you Chief Schouest for your service and leadership. I have thought of you often and wish I had called you more.
