Mary Eunice Belsome Perez, of Barataria, Louisiana, died on Friday, May 31, 2024 at 9:00 AM at her daughters home in Morgan City at the age of 87. Daughter of the late Edmond Mitchel Belsome and Mary Thomassine Dufrene Belsome. Wife of the late Jerry Anthony Perez, Sr. for 43 years. Mother of Dorothy Eunice Perez (Kathy) of Locke, NY., Daniel Neal Perez (Penney) of Biloxi, MS. and Mary Elda Perez (Susan) of Morgan City, LA. and the late Jerry Anthony Perez, Jr. of Gulfport, FL. Grandmother of April Marie Dixon (Jermaine) of Niceville, FL., Tanya Marie Perez (Ryan) of Covington, LA, Brie and Kattie Perez of Locke, NY. . Great-grandmother of Dante' Jermaine (Diamond), Dahja April (DJ), Dalin Marie (Dyrek), and Danae Dixon of Shalimar, FL. Great-great-grandmother Kerrigan, Addison, Skiro, Gabe, Anna, Wynter, Solstice, Amethyst, Zane and Aubrie. Only sibling of the late Anna Mae Belsome Autin (Abel) of Marrero, LA. Aunt of Anita Verdin (Fredrick) and Brandi, Melanie Deaton and family, all of Lafitte, LA., Abel Autin, Jr. (Kela) and family of West Monroe, LA, and the late Eileen Autin. "Old Mama" to Jolie Matherne, "Granny nanny" to Katherine Conrad, "Old ma-maw" to Lauren Walker (Barry), Brooke Woods (Landon) and Sarah Dupuis (Lemuel). "Granny" to Michelle and Joseph Matherne and Christen Adam. Her extended family Georganne and Joey Mathern, Christopher Adams, Gibby and Ginger Conrad, Ian Parrish and Lisa Seals Preston, Kim, Carl, Lil' Carl, and Justin Dufrene and the late Jaimie Colman, Hank Rowecamp, Terri Mancuso. True friends, Elaine Bourgeois and the late Patsy Perkins. Mary is also survived by many other relatives and friends.
She had a C.D.A. in Early Childhood Education and taught Headstart for 20 years, taught Bible History and Religion classes for over 50 years. Mary belonged to the Sodality of the Blessed Virgin Mary in her youth, she was on the Council of Catholic Men and Women, as well as a life-long member of the choir at St. Anthony Church in Barataria, LA., a charter member of the Benevolent Auxiliary and the Vice President of the New Orleans Guillain-Barre' Syndrome Support Group. She Received the St. Louis Medallion Award in 2000.
Mary enjoyed dancing, bowling, playing cards, traveling, singing, listening to music, watching the Saints play football and spending time with family and friends playing games. She also enjoyed cooking, baking and decorating cakes, sewing and crocheting but most of all she loved swinging on her swing.
Family and friends are invited to attend the visitation on Tuesday, June 4, 2024 from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Westside/Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, 5101 Westbank Expressway in Marrero. Funeral Mass will be held Wednesday, June 5, 2024 at 10:00 AM Westside/Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home and the committal service will follow at St. Pius X Cemetery in Crown Point.
In lieu of flowers, masses are prefered.
